It was originally published in 1850.As such, this volume covers only the period from Alexander III (pope from 1159-1181) to the Revolutions of 1848-49 and their immediate aftermath.
The reader should also be aware that this book, while very informative, is written in a florid, Victorian-style English typical for 1850. This can make for somewhat difficult reading for those of us used to more straightforward 21st Century-style prose.
